POLITICS #Constitutional amendment be fast-tracked to scrap MCA position - failed their duty, wage bill -Assuming an MCA spent Ksh.5 million on the campaign trail, it would take him 12.5 months to recoup his money using the Ksh 400,000 average monthly pay.

On August in 2022 Kenyans went to the polls to elect their preferred POLITICAL drive Will who will be representing them in Parliament - from the county politics to the much hyped national set-up.  on the eve of the this electioneering period 2022 no stone left unturned to make sure every strategy, plans and schemes works for better or against any affiliation that hard more tough ways of luring voters.

Under the new dispensation everyone Kenyan have to elect six (6) slots of representation - the MCA position is least political structure -  Rer wajeer went to the poll making their own legitimate decision, we elected 30 MCA across the county - we hoped for service delivery, they fulfil their campaigns pledges our expectations was high, today that rays of hope is withering off, what we see is a sihihoutee.

Today our MCAs failed constitutionally, They don't even able to execute their mandatory stipulated functions - representation legislation and oversight - since elected the went into a theater of playing dubious characters by telling  us lies ,no tangible projects, they hide in the haystack of the governor is not executing projects - we know they are sole fulcrums of budget making it's clearly a fake staged lies. They deliberately co-factor their interest so far we had two financial year today across the wards no sustainable development projects or initiatives that are truly secured by an MCA.

They become a choir chorus for the government, if need a rise they can either bring sanity or rude to of shock but so far, they had burried their head in the soil, they care of their interest - Rer wajeer today are grappling with huge challenges including Inflation, poor service delivery, lack of medical care, Water scarcity, unemployment, livestock diseases - hotbed of criss - the MCAs have the power but ironical.

For now they are jostling for an opportunity to travel outside the country - foreign trip, making their additional chunk of monies while the youths wallowing in pain as result of depression due to lack of Job, mothers relieving in bed with sleeping pills because she can't afford to pay school fees, an elderly bedridden in his makeshifts with no medical attention while MCAs making all sorts of arrangements to enjoy their trip in Turkey.

However if they won't facilitate any changes MCA position should be scrapped from the constitution - they are enjoying heavenly in the burden of common wananchi tax refund if removed the seats will be vital in cutting the wage bill that is skyrocketing- they are enjoying massive privilege, with their current rate of performance there is no need the maintain it .

of course it won't be a  walk in the park but as we the mighty power is with people -chapter one the sovereignty of the people,if we collectively petition it then no doubt it will be an easy turn-round journey for constitutional reformation so we seal off the seats or  should be removed under a constitutional ammendment.it  will pave way for effective implementation of devolution- too plagues of devolution is a result of huge bill .

The MCAs position are a burden to our country as the position consumes a lot of millions, in simple take look of the grey reality of today's politics - the number of wards, the expenses, expenditures, duplication of jobs, mileages and again slots for nominated.

The restructuring of the county way of politics especially scraping of MCAs Will be panacea if we correctly mould it- representation be geared towards one common sense of equal formation of power- sealing off this expensive slot

in fact the county governments spend up to 70 per cent of their budget, leaving only 30 for development- disparities and backwardness, development and socioeconomic status of the people in the wards - it will be difffuit to tackle the shackles of poverty and achieve equitable resources sharing.

When we voted for the new Constitution, we expected everyone to enjoy the fruits of devolution. We are yet to realize this because counties spend much on salaries and incessant wranglings.

in nutshell it's important to note that regions matter when it comes to the MCA post. For example, MCAs in Central Rift, Central Kenya, Garissa mandera or and Southern Rift spent the least on seeking election, compared to the rest of the country. It cost between Ksh 1.6 million and Ksh 1.8 million on average to contest an MCA seat.

It is, however, most expensive to run for MCA in Wajir county because of the POLITICAL dimension of our region - with negotiated democracy that flaps together with clan, tribal phenomena.

Surely Is it Worth It?

Once an MCA assumes office, just how much money do they make over the course of one term? Prior to the recent changes implemented by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) that will see the next cohort of MCAs taking a significant pay cut, these legislators used to rake in Ksh400,000 on average, per month.

This is broken down as follows;

Monthly salary – Ksh165,000

Per diem of local and foreign travel – Ksh150,000 per month on average

Monthly mileage allowance – Ksh40,000

Monthly airtime – Ksh5,000

Sitting allowance- Ksh5,000 per session

If any MCA fails to attend eight consecutive sittings of the county assembly, they risk losing their seat. This is what takes the sitting allowance to at least Ksh40,000.

However, the amount could be even more depending on the number of sessions a particular MCA attends.

Assuming an MCA spent Ksh.5 million on the campaign trail, it would take him 12.5 months to recoup his money using the Ksh 400,000 average monthly pay. However, it is important also to note that these ward representatives are usually bombarded with WhatsApp groups that need their contributions for projects almost every other day.

Other perks that come with the job are benchmarking trips to beautiful destinations around the world, as well as a recently approved car allowance gran

in short your MCA grossed at least KSH. 24 million over the last terms (5 years = 60 months)- so literally they are for the shot. it comes with goodies but it's upon the taxpayers money to be refuelled from - I think it's noble if we scrap MCA position through constitutional changes otherwise it Will be a lucrative businesses for many in coming years.

God bless Wajir county
