Cabinet Secretary for Health Aden Duale presided over a Waqf empowerment event organized by Mohammed Adow, the Member of Parliament for Wajir South, in support of the Al-Nibras Foundation and its madrasas in Wajir South and the wider region.
The initiative aims to mobilize resources for the purchase of land and the construction of a permanent Waqf project in South C, Nairobi.
The project is intended to provide sustainable support for religious education and strengthen institutions operating under the foundation.
Speaking during the event, Duale commended Hon. Adow for spearheading initiatives that promote religious learning and community empowerment.
“Leaders should emulate the efforts of Hon. Mohammed Adow advancing and sustaining religious education through initiatives that empower our communities,” said Duale.
The Cabinet Secretary emphasized that strengthening religious institutions and investing in education remain critical to nurturing responsible and morally grounded societies.
Duale also weighed in on national politics, urging former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to uphold personal integrity before criticizing government programmes.
“Before purporting to lecture others on accountability, particularly regarding the Social Health Authority, leaders must first demonstrate personal accountability and address issues within their own households,” Duale said.
He defended the progress made under the Social Health Authority over the past 19 months, noting that the authority has achieved major milestones in expanding access to healthcare.
According to Duale, more than KSh 19 billion has been disbursed for Primary Health Care (PHC) services, representing a tenfold increase compared to previous administrations.
Additionally, the authority has paid out KSh 121 billion, nearly double the amount previously disbursed under the National Health Insurance Fund.
“Over 30 million Kenyans are now registered and accessing primary health care services, compared to just three million under the NHIF system,” he said, noting that the progress signals steady advancement toward Universal Health Coverage.
The event was attended by several leaders, including Ahmed Muhumed, Deputy Governor of Wajir County; Mohamed Abass Sheikh, Senator for Wajir; former Mandera County Senator Billow Kerrow; Dekow Barrow, Member of Parliament for Garissa Township; and Ibrahim Abdi Saney, MP for Wajir North, among other dignitaries.
Leaders present reiterated their support for initiatives aimed at strengthening religious education, community empowerment, and social development across northern Kenya.
