Hundreds of residents from all walks of life gathered at the ICF grounds in Wajir County to observe Eid al-Adha, one of the most significant celebrations in the Islamic calendar. The congregational prayers drew men, women, youth, and children in a heartfelt display of community, faith, and spiritual reflection.
Leading the prayers was Sheikh Osman Noor, who delivered a powerful sermon emphasizing the spiritual and moral essence of Eid al-Adha.
He reminded the faithful of the festival's significance—commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice for Allah—and urged those present to remember and support the less fortunate in society.
“This is a day of sacrifice, mercy, and unity. Let us not forget the needy, the poor, and those struggling in silence,” Sheikh Osman preached.
The Sheikh emphasized brotherhood and humanity, encouraging the community to embody compassion and humility, particularly on such a holy day.
He cautioned against extravagance and un-Islamic practices that contradict religious and moral values.
Call for Political Tolerance and Social Harmony
In a notable part of his sermon, Sheikh Osman turned his attention to the political climate in Wajir.
He urged politicians and their supporters to uphold peace and unity, warning against actions that may sow division or prejudice within the county.
“Let us not allow politics to divide us. We must be careful not to fall into the trap of hatred and disunity,” he said.
Youth Advised Against Harmful Behaviors
The Sheikh also issued a stern warning to the youth about engaging in destructive behaviors such as drug abuse, crime, and other vices that lead to regret and health issues.
He called on parents to take a more active role in guiding their children in accordance with Islamic teachings.
He highlighted the dangers of human trafficking and illegal migration schemes, commonly referred to as Taxriib, labeling them as haram (forbidden) and deceptive.
“Taxriib is haram. Do not be fooled. No one can alter what Allah has destined for you. Focus on your future, work hard, and take advantage of vocational training opportunities,” Sheikh Osman Noor advised.
The message resonated deeply with the attendees, many of whom expressed gratitude for the timely and relevant sermon, especially given the socio-political and economic challenges facing the region.
As the prayers concluded, the atmosphere was filled with joy, reflection, and a renewed sense of purpose, as families returned home to celebrate Eid al-Adha with feasts and acts of charity.
