Feiza Ahmed Launches 2027 Women Rep Bid as Wajir’s Clan Politics Take Shape

By. Ahmed Salat Ali - Aaran Reporter

Hon. Feiza Ahmed Sheikh, the nominated MCA for Wajir County Assembly, has officially entered the 2027 Woman Representative race, injecting fresh energy into the political landscape of Wajir West and the county at large. On Saturday, she hosted a well-attended consultative forum with women from the Rerow Mohamud community and the broader Wajir West constituency, attracting participants from different professional and social backgrounds.

Addressing the gathering, Feiza said she was fully prepared to serve, expressing confidence in her qualifications, leadership experience, and deep understanding of Wajir’s challenges. “I believe Wajir deserves informed, firm, and compassionate leadership. I am prepared for this journey, and I am ready to lead our county with integrity,” she said.

Participants at the meeting openly endorsed her candidature, with several speakers affirming that Feiza possesses the vision, resolve, and temperament required for the office.

“We have watched her work in the Assembly. She speaks for women, she speaks for her people, and she has the courage we need in national leadership,” said one of the women leaders.

Another participant noted: “Feiza brings hope. She listens. She understands our challenges, and she is the kind of leader who lifts others as she rises.”

Feiza currently serves as a nominated MCA in the Wajir County Assembly, where she sits on multiple committees. She is recognised for her articulate contributions in debates, her firm grasp of legislative procedures, and her distinct leadership qualities. Her supporters point to her strong educational background and active grassroots engagement as key strengths that position her as a formidable contender.

In Wajir West, three aspirants have already withdrawn their interest in the Woman Representative race, underscoring the intensity of the political contest ahead. Countywide, more than fifteen candidates have expressed interest, with each of the six constituencies fielding at least three aspirants — a reflection of Wajir’s deeply rooted clan-aligned political structure.

The Woman Representative seat remains one of the most competitive positions in Wajir’s political arena. Negotiated democracy, guided by clan-based alignments commonly referred to as “Rerkey,” continues to influence electoral decisions through community lineup systems — a process in which outcomes do not always mirror popular opinion, making the race highly unpredictable.

The incumbent, Hon. Fatuma Jehow, is seeking re-election but faces growing scrutiny. She drew criticism following remarks made during the Wajir High School 60th Anniversary on July 12, where she suggested that regional elections would favour the President regardless of prevailing circumstances. The comments sparked debate and cast uncertainty over her second-term prospects.

With Feiza Ahmed now officially in the race, the 2027 Woman Representative contest is gaining significant momentum. Whether her grassroots appeal, legislative experience, and expanding community support will propel her through Wajir’s intricate clan-negotiated politics remains to be seen — but her entry has unquestionably reshaped the contest.

Community Elders Rally Behind Hon. Faiza as 2027 Bid Gains Momentum

Community elders led by Ugas Abdi Maalim and Ugas Maow Ibrahim have announced their firm support for Hon. Faiza, emphasising that her leadership style and proven track record reflect the community’s aspirations and priorities.

The colourful event brought together a strong delegation, including respected elders, several MCAs who serve with her in the County Assembly, and former Wajir West MP and 2027 gubernatorial aspirant Ahmed Kolosh. A poem dedicated to Faiza added an emotional and ceremonial touch to the vibrant gathering.

The meeting concluded peacefully, with community members reaffirming their commitment to advancing Faiza’s political bid. Leaders noted that with the right alignment, strong community backing, and strategic coordination, her path to victory remains highly promising.
