The competition, organized by the Garissa County Qur’an Association, brought together 219 contestants drawn from various madrassas across the region. Participants showcased remarkable mastery in the recitation, memorization and interpretation of the Holy Qur’an, impressing judges and attendees alike with their discipline and eloquence.
Abdikhalid Gedi Sheikh of Markaz Al-Bayan Madrassa emerged as the overall winner and was awarded a brand-new motor vehicle in recognition of his outstanding performance. Speaking during the ceremony, Duale commended the organizers for sustaining the initiative for 16 years, noting that it has played a critical role in nurturing moral values and spiritual growth among the youth.
“This competition is more than a contest of memorization; it is a celebration of faith, discipline and commitment to the teachings of the Holy Qur’an. It continues to shape our young people into responsible and morally upright members of society,” he said.
The panel of judges comprised distinguished scholars: Sheikh Luqman Abdirahman Hussien (Kenya), Dr. Ismail Abdirahman Mohamed (Sudan) and Dr. Riyadh Abdullahi Al Absi (Yemen), who praised the high standards demonstrated by the participants.
The colourful event attracted corporate, political, community and religious leaders. Among those in attendance were Area MP Hon. Maj. (Rtd) Dekow Barrow; Hon. Mohammed Adow (Wajir South); Hon. Abdisirat Khalif (Nominated); and Garissa County Commissioner Ramadhan Mwabudzo.
