Ruto Orders Emergency Response as Floods Ravage Nairobi and Other Regions

By Ahmed Salat Ali AARAN TV KE

President William Samoei Ruto has ordered the immediate deployment of a multi-agency emergency response team to assist communities affected by severe flooding in parts of Nairobi and several other regions across Kenya.

The ongoing floods have caused widespread devastation, leading to the tragic loss of lives, displacement of families, and significant destruction of homes, property and livelihoods.

In a statement, the President expressed his condolences to families who have lost loved ones and assured affected communities that the government is taking urgent measures to mitigate the crisis.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those whose lives have been disrupted by this disaster,” President Ruto said.

He affirmed that the national government stands in solidarity with all citizens affected by the floods and is moving swiftly to alleviate suffering and safeguard lives.

To reinforce ongoing rescue and relief operations, the Head of State directed the immediate deployment of a coordinated emergency team led by the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, working closely with the Kenya Defence Forces and other emergency response agencies.

“This team will coordinate rescue efforts, support affected communities, and ensure that those in danger are moved to safer locations,” the President stated.

The government has also ordered the immediate release of relief food from national strategic reserves to support families affected by the disaster.

In addition, President Ruto announced that the government will cover hospital bills for victims injured during the flooding and currently receiving treatment in public health facilities.

“Emergency humanitarian support will also be extended to families facing displacement and hardship during this period,” he said.

The national government is working closely with the Nairobi City County Government and other county administrations to ensure a coordinated response that prioritises the safety and wellbeing of citizens.

President Ruto further noted that the floods underscore the urgent need for long-term solutions to recurring flooding in urban areas.

He pointed to the ongoing Nairobi River Regeneration Programme as a key initiative aimed at restoring river ecosystems, improving drainage systems, and reducing flood risks within the capital.

“These efforts will be strengthened and accelerated as part of our commitment to protecting lives, property, and the environment,” the President said.
