Wajir Marks Grand Finale of 4th Annual Qur’an Competition as Governor Pledges Continued Support for Religious Education

The Wajir County Government has successfully concluded its 4th Annual Qur’an Competition, with leaders reaffirming their commitment to promoting religious education and nurturing young talent across the county.
The colourful closing ceremony brought together religious scholars, community members and a host of political leaders from across the region to celebrate outstanding performance in Qur’anic recitation and memorization.
Participants competed in three categories, with all contestants receiving awards in recognition of their dedication and effort.
Governor Ahmed Abdullahi congratulated Abdullahi Abass, who emerged as the overall best student and winner in the 30th Juz category. The top performer was awarded a Probox vehicle and a cash prize of KES 260,000.
“Alhamdulillah, the Wajir County Government 4th Annual Qur’an Competition has come to a successful close. We are proud of all the participants who showcased remarkable commitment to mastering the Holy Qur’an,” said Governor Abdullahi.
“We will continue supporting religious education and nurturing young talent in our county.”
The governor also expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, Hassan Ali Joho, Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, for gracing the occasion.
“I sincerely thank my brother and Chief Guest, Hon. Hassan Ali Joho, for honoring us with his presence during this important ceremony,” he said.
Other leaders who attended the event included Abdulsamad Sharif Nassir, Governor of Mombasa County; Mohamed Abass Sheikh, Senator for Wajir County; Abdul Haji, Senator for Garissa County; Aden Daud Mohamed, MP for Wajir East; Ibrahim Saney, MP for Wajir North; Abdul Haro, MP for Mandera South; Bashir Abdullahi, MP for Mandera North; Abdi Shurie, MP for Balambala; Rashid Bedzimba, MP for Kisauni; Mohamed Machele, MP for Mvita; Abubakar Ahmed; Suleiman Shabal, Member of the East African Legislative Assembly; Abdille Yussuf, Speaker of the Wajir County Assembly; and Aharub Khatri, Speaker of the Mombasa County Assembly, alongside Members of County Assemblies and other dignitaries.
The annual competition has continued to grow in stature, drawing participants from across Wajir and reinforcing the county’s commitment to strengthening religious values and academic excellence.
Governor Abdullahi concluded the ceremony with a prayer for the county and its youth, saying, “May Allah bless Wajir County and our children.”
