Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi has issued a strong condemnation of the ongoing clashes involving members of the Kamba and Somali communities, describing the violence and loss of life as “deeply troubling and wholly unacceptable.”
In a firm statement, the governor—who also serves as Chair of the Council of Governors—called on security agencies to act with urgency and decisiveness in restoring order and bringing those responsible to justice.
“We cannot and will not condone violence in any form. Those behind these criminal acts must be apprehended without delay and face the full force of the law,” he said.
Governor Abdullahi cautioned against framing the clashes along ethnic lines, warning that such narratives risk inflaming tensions and undermining peaceful coexistence among communities that have long lived and traded together across county borders.
“This must not be reduced to an ethnic confrontation. Kenyans from all backgrounds coexist, work, and do business together. Irresponsible labeling only endangers innocent livelihoods and fuels further division,” he added.
He further decried incidents of looting and destruction of property reported in affected areas, urging individuals involved to exercise restraint and respect the rule of law.
“Acts of looting and vandalism only worsen an already volatile situation. I urge all those involved to desist immediately and embrace dialogue and peaceful engagement,” the governor emphasized.
Governor Abdullahi revealed that coordinated efforts are underway between leaders from the affected counties and national security teams to de-escalate tensions and restore normalcy.
He reassured residents that authorities are fully engaged and committed to stabilizing the situation.
“We are working closely with fellow leaders and security agencies to ensure calm is restored. I appeal to the public to remain patient, peaceful, and cooperative as these efforts continue,” he said.
The governor’s remarks come amid growing concern over sporadic violence in parts of Garissa,Mwingi highlighting the urgent need for unity, accountability and sustained peace-building initiatives.
As investigations continue, leaders across the political divide are expected to rally behind calls for calm, emphasizing that lasting peace remains a shared national responsibility.
