Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to improving education and healthcare services in Garissa County following an extensive development tour that included a visit to Saka Girls' Secondary School and Saka Health Centre.
Speaking during his visit to Saka Girls' Secondary School, an institution he championed from its inception during his tenure as the area Member of Parliament, Duale described the school as a project that remains close to his heart.
Addressing more than 600 students, the Cabinet Secretary listened to their aspirations, concerns, and educational needs before announcing a series of interventions aimed at improving learning conditions and expanding opportunities for the learners.
“To strengthen digital learning and prepare our students for the future, I will engage my colleagues in the Ministries of Education and ICT to facilitate the establishment of a fully equipped ICT hub with 100 computers at this institution,” Duale said.
He noted that the initiative would enable students to acquire critical digital skills and compete effectively in an increasingly technology-driven world.
In a further boost to the school's infrastructure, Duale announced that works to solarize the entire institution would commence within the next two weeks, ensuring a reliable and sustainable electricity supply to support learning and other school activities.
The Cabinet Secretary also pledged to address the persistent water shortage affecting the institution by facilitating the drilling of a borehole within the school compound.
“Access to clean and reliable water is essential for a conducive learning environment. We are committed to ensuring that this challenge is permanently resolved,” he stated.
Responding to a request from the students and school administration, Duale further assured them that he would present their appeal for a school bus to President William Ruto to facilitate educational trips and co-curricular activities.
Later, the Cabinet Secretary toured Saka Health Centre, where he inspected newly delivered maternity equipment supplied by the Ministry of Health as part of ongoing efforts to improve maternal and newborn healthcare services in the region.
He said the equipment would play a critical role in addressing the high maternal mortality burden in Garissa County by strengthening healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.
“The Government remains committed to ensuring that mothers and newborns receive quality healthcare services closer to their communities. Safe delivery services will continue to be accessible and free of charge at Level Two and Level Three health facilities across the country,” Duale said.
The maternity equipment forms part of a broader national programme aimed at enhancing primary healthcare services and improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes.
The Cabinet Secretary was accompanied by senior Ministry officials, local leaders, and representatives of the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) during the inspection tour.
