Jipange Mapema: Register as a Voter and Know Your Ballot
By Ahmed Salat Ali political Affairs Editor
As Kenya prepares for the 2027 General Election, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has provided clarity on the colours assigned to ballot papers and the corresponding ballot box lids for the six elective positions.
The IEBC has emphasised that the colour of each ballot paper matches the colour of the lid of the respective ballot box, a measure intended to help voters correctly identify and cast their ballots during the election.
The six elective positions and their corresponding colours are: President — White
Member of the National Assembly — Green
Member of the County Assembly — Beige
Senator — Yellow Woman Member of the National Assembly — Purple and Governor — Blue
The Commission is urging Kenyans to familiarise themselves with the ballot-paper colours ahead of polling day to minimise confusion and ensure that every vote is cast in the correct ballot box.
The IEBC is also encouraging eligible Kenyans who have not yet registered as voters to take advantage of the available registration points.
Voter registration can be undertaken at IEBC Constituency Offices, selected Huduma Centres across the country, and the IEBC Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi.
With the 2027 General Election approaching, the Commission's message to voters is clear: prepare early, register as a voter and make your voice count.
“Jipange Mapema. Register as a Voter!”
Voters are further encouraged to rely on official IEBC communication and avoid misinformation regarding the electoral process.
