Rebkey Yussuf Mohamud Unity Retreat Signals Major Political Realignment Ahead of 2027

By Ahmed Salat Ali, Political Affairs Editor, AARAN TV KE

The Rebkey Yussuf Mohamud community has concluded a three-day Annual General Engagement Retreat in Lanqoot Wajir West, in what participants described as a significant moment of reconciliation, renewed unity and political reflection ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The retreat brought together elders, religious leaders, women, youth and other community representatives for extensive discussions on healing the divisions that emerged after the 2022 elections, rebuilding trust and forging a common political direction for the years ahead.

For three days, the gathering became a forum for frank dialogue, reflection and solution-building with participants revisiting past disagreements while seeking a fresh political and social compact capable of restoring cohesion within the Rebkey Yussuf Mohamud community.

One of the dominant themes was forgiveness.

Community elders called for an end to political divisions that have previously weakened the community's collective voice, urging members to put past differences behind them and concentrate on building a united political constituency.

“We have come together not to reopen old wounds but to close them. The disagreements of 2022 should become a lesson, not a permanent division. Our strength lies in our ability to forgive, reconcile and move forward as one community,” one of the elders said.

Religious leaders also used the forum to emphasise the importance of reconciliation, unity and responsible political participation, warning that political competition should never be allowed to destroy family and community relationships.

“Politics should not make us enemies. We can disagree on candidates and political parties but we must remain brothers and sisters. Unity, forgiveness and consultation must guide every political decision we make,” a religious elder told the gathering.

Women were equally vocal during the deliberations, insisting that their participation should extend beyond mobilisation during election campaigns to include decision-making within the community's political structures.

“Women have carried this community through difficult times and our voices must be part of the decisions that shape our political future. We want a united community where women, youth and elders sit at the same table and determine our priorities together,” a woman representative at the retreat said.

The youth, meanwhile called for a political strategy that recognises the changing aspirations of a new generation, including greater representation, employment opportunities, education and meaningful participation in leadership.

The retreat ultimately produced a broad commitment to preserve family unity while developing a coordinated political structure capable of influencing decisions at both county and national levels.

Discussions also centred on potential political alliances, strategic partnerships and the positions the community may support as the 2027 political contest takes shape.

Although no single political alignment was publicly presented as the final position, the deliberations underscored a growing recognition that the community's numerical strength gives it considerable bargaining power in the political negotiations ahead.

With an estimated voting strength of more than 5,000 votes, the Rebkey Yussuf Mohamud community commands a significant bloc within Wajir West Constituency. Its voting patterns could therefore have implications beyond the community itself, particularly in closely contested political races.

The community's political significance becomes even more pronounced when viewed against the wider Wajir County political landscape, where gubernatorial, parliamentary, Women Representative and Member of County Assembly contests are expected to generate intense competition in 2027.

A negotiated political alignment involving the Rebkey Yussuf Mohamud vote could potentially provide candidates with an important electoral advantage, particularly in races where margins are expected to be narrow.

Political observers argue that the community's influence is not simply about the number of votes it commands but also about whether those votes can be consolidated behind a common political position.

If the community succeeds in maintaining the unity pledged at the Lanqoot retreat and subsequently reaches a unanimous position on political alliances, its endorsement could become an important bargaining instrument in the wider political negotiations.

The emerging message from Lanqoot is therefore unmistakable: the Rebkey Yussuf Mohamud community wants to approach 2027 as a united political constituency rather than a fragmented voting bloc.

The retreat also marked a shift from personality-driven politics towards a more structured approach centred on consultation, collective decision-making and strategic political engagement.

“We have learnt from the past that division comes at a political cost. This time, we want to consult widely, agree collectively and negotiate from a position of strength,” another elder said.

For the Rebkey Yussuf Mohamud community, unity is increasingly becoming more than a social aspiration; it is emerging as a political strategy.

In Wajir West and the wider county, the question now is how this renewed cohesion will translate into political choices.

With less than a year remaining before the 2027 General Election, the community's next steps will be closely watched by aspirants, political parties and potential allies seeking to consolidate support across Wajir County.

The Lanqoot retreat may have ended after three days of deliberations but its political chapter is only beginning.

The ultimate test will be whether the commitments made behind closed doors can survive the pressures of competing interests, personalities and political alliances — and whether the Rebkey Yussuf Mohamud community can turn its renewed unity into a decisive voice in the 2027 political contest.

For now, one thing is clear: the Rebkey Yussuf Mohamud unity question has become a significant political storyline in Wajir West, with the potential to influence the wider Wajir County political equation.

Basir Security Centre Row Sparks Debate as Eldas MP Defends Project

By Ahmed Salat Ali | Political Affairs | AARAN TV KE  Aden Keynan has broken his silence on the controversial Basir Multi-Agency Centre, strongly defending the project as a critical national security intervention and warning leaders against politicizing matters touching on public safety and regional stability.
