President William Ruto’s extensive eight-day tour of Taita-Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa, Tana River and Lamu has brought renewed attention to a region that could become an important theatre in the next presidential contest. The tour, running from September 26 to October 3, has combined development launches, infrastructure inspections, land reforms, economic programmes and political engagements with local leaders and residents.
