Wajir West MP Launches Sh56 Million Bursary Fund, Pledges More Development Projects

‎By Ahmed Salat Ali

‎Wajir, Kenya – Wajir West Member of Parliament, Hon. Yussuf Farah, has unveiled a bursary allocation worth Sh56 million, set to benefit over 7,000 students across the constituency.

‎The MP made the announcement during a development tour that also saw the laying of foundation stones for two classrooms and the commissioning of two school buses for Hudhule Secondary School and Ademasajida Secondary.

‎Highlighting his achievements over the past two and a half years in office, Hon. Yussuf detailed key milestones including improved security along the Wajir West–Isiolo border, the initiation of a peace agreement, and several infrastructure and service delivery projects. These include the electrification of various areas, the drilling of a borehole at Boa, and the construction of water dams at Fatuma Nur. A Huduma Centre has also been established in Hadado Town, expanding access to essential government services.

‎In a historic first for the region, the MP announced the successful tarmacking of roads in Hadado and Griftu towns, giving Wajir West over ten kilometers of tarmacked road—an unprecedented achievement in the constituency’s history.

‎The MP also announced the construction of new secondary schools and classrooms, and continued provision of bursaries for all students in Wajir West. Despite challenges in accessing water in Baji—where a borehole drilling failed to yield water—Hon. Yussuf confirmed that a geological survey is underway to identify viable water sources.

‎Looking ahead, the legislator pledged to increase electricity coverage to approximately 80% of the constituency, with specific plans targeting Athibohol, Griftu, Matho, Qara, Arbajahan, Garseyqoftu, and surrounding areas.

‎In response to recent sentiments from the Eldas MP, Hon. Yussuf urged the residents of Wajir West to live peacefully and harmoniously with their neighbors.

On the proposed abolition of the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), he called on the community to actively participate in public forums and share their views regarding its potential absorption into the county government system.

‎The MP's development tour will continue over the next three days, during which he is expected to launch additional projects and engage with residents across the constituency.
