Rerow Mohamud Professionals Weigh In Behind Kolosh as Their Preferred Gubernatorial Candidate

Wajir gubernatorial aspirant Ahmed Mohamed Kolosh has stepped up efforts to consolidate the Rerow Mohamud community behind his 2027 gubernatorial bid, engaging professionals, intellectuals and political actors in a strategic consultative meeting aimed at charting a common political course.
The engagement brought together professionals drawn from diverse fields and seasoned political figures, to deliberate on how the community can build a broad-based political coalition capable of delivering victory in the 2027 Wajir gubernatorial contest.
Discussions centred on strengthening unity, developing an effective campaign strategy, identifying the winning threshold, mobilising support across the wider community and ensuring that every section of Rerow Mohamud feels included in the political process.
The meeting comes after Kolosh was endorsed as the sole Rerow Mohamud gubernatorial candidate through a delegates' selection process in which he secured 50 of the 56 votes cast. Former aspirants Yahya Dahiye Mohamed and Omar Sheikh received four and two votes respectively.
ABDIRASHID SALAT CALLS FOR STEADFASTNESS
Seasoned politician Abdirashid Salat challenged the professionals and other stakeholders to remain steadfast and play a decisive role in nurturing and shaping the community's political leadership.
Salat emphasised the importance of collective responsibility, urging professionals not to remain on the sidelines but to actively contribute their expertise, networks and strategic thinking towards building a strong political movement.
He argued that the road to the governor's office would require discipline, organisation and sustained engagement rather than relying solely on the community's numerical strength.
KOLOSH: “THE REROW MOHAMUD FACTOR COMES FIRST”
Addressing the gathering, Kolosh thanked the professionals and community stakeholders for their continued engagement and said the purpose of the meeting was to provide an update on the political process and explain how the delegates' selection culminated in his emergence as the community's sole candidate.
Kolosh said the endorsement was not merely a personal political victory but a responsibility that requires the collective participation of the entire community.
“The Rerow Mohamud factor supersedes everything. Our unity, our collective interest and the future of our community must remain at the centre of this journey,” Kolosh said.
He acknowledged that political leadership comes with expectations and accountability and used the occasion to apologise to members of the community who felt that he had not fully met their expectations during his tenure as a Member of Parliament.
“If, during my tenure as MP, I did not meet the expectations of some members of our community, I sincerely apologise. Leadership is about listening, learning and correcting where necessary,” he said.
“THIS WILL NOT BE AN EASY CONTEST”
Kolosh cautioned that the gubernatorial race would be a highly competitive political contest requiring serious preparation hard work and sustained mobilisation.
He called on professionals, religious leaders, elders, women, youth and other community stakeholders to take ownership of the campaign rather than leaving the responsibility to a few political actors.
“The gubernatorial campaign will not be easy. It is a very tough competition and it requires hard work from everyone. We must bring everybody on board and work together if we are to achieve our objective,” Kolosh said.
The aspirant presented his political ambitions as a broader community project rather than a personal quest for power or material benefit.
“My goal goes beyond a political dream. I am not seeking this position to enrich myself or to gain political advantage for myself. What matters to me is the community and what we can achieve together,” he said.
“I BELIEVE I HAVE THE CAPACITY”
Kolosh further described himself as the candidate capable of translating the community's political aspirations into a gubernatorial victory, while calling on professionals to provide the strategic leadership required to make that ambition achievable.
“I believe I am your dream candidate and that I have the capacity to lead this journey. But we must wake up from our slumber. We are calling upon you to work with us because securing the governor's position is not the responsibility of one individual,” he said.
He urged the professionals to use their expertise, influence and networks to help expand the campaign beyond the traditional political structures and build a wider coalition capable of competing effectively across Wajir County.
“Everyone must take their share of responsibility in this gubernatorial journey. We cannot leave the work to a few people and expect victory. Every individual has a role to play,” Kolosh added.
FROM COMMUNITY ENDORSEMENT TO COUNTY-WIDE CAMPAIGN
Kolosh's emergence as the sole Rerow Mohamud candidate marks an important stage in the community's preparations for the 2027 gubernatorial contest.
The immediate political challenge will now be to translate the internal consensus into a broader county-wide coalition reaching out to other communities and political constituencies across Wajir.
The campaign is expected to focus on building alliances, consolidating the Rerow Mohamud vote, winning over undecided voters and establishing a political platform capable of attracting support beyond the community's traditional base.
