Rerow Mohamud rallies behind Ahmed Mohamed Kolosh as the community launches a fresh political push across Wajir West

The Rerow Mohamud community has endorsed Ahmed Mohamed Kolosh as its sole candidate for the Wajir gubernatorial race in the 2027 General Election, setting the stage for a fresh political contest as the county begins to warm up for the next electoral battle.
The endorsement was made at Makaror Primary School grounds in an event marked by prayers, speeches, cultural celebration and a strong display of political solidarity.
The ceremony, held in an atmosphere of pomp and colour, followed weeks of deliberations, consultations, discussions and disagreements among three Rerow Mohamud aspirants before the community settled on a single flagbearer.
Kolosh emerged victorious through a delegates' process, garnering 50 votes out of 56. Yahya Dahiye secured four votes, while Omar Sheikh received two.
The outcome effectively closed the first chapter of the community's internal contest and opened a new political phase centred on consolidating support beyond Rerow Mohamud and building a broader coalition across Wajir West.
Speakers Rally Behind Kolosh
A succession of speakers took to the stage, each offering a different perspective on why they believed Kolosh was the right candidate to carry the community's political aspirations into the 2027 gubernatorial contest.
Omar Haji said the endorsement should be viewed beyond an individual political ambition, describing it as a collective decision intended to unite the community behind one candidate.
“Today is not merely about choosing a candidate. It is about demonstrating that when our community speaks with one voice, our political strength becomes greater. Kolosh has been given the responsibility to carry our aspirations, and we must now stand behind him.”
Sheikh Ahmed Salah emphasised the importance of unity and discipline following the conclusion of the selection process.
“We have debated, consulted and differed in our views, but we have reached a decision. From this moment, our responsibility is to protect the unity we have achieved and to campaign for our candidate with one purpose.”
Mohamed Ali cited Kolosh's political standing and his ability to engage different sections of society as among the reasons for supporting his candidacy.
“We need a candidate who can sit with different communities, listen to their concerns and build bridges. Kolosh has demonstrated that he can reach beyond his immediate constituency, and that quality will be important in a county as diverse as Wajir.”
Mohamed Abdullahi called on the community to translate the endorsement into a broader political movement.
“An endorsement is only the beginning. The real work starts now. We must take this message to our neighbours, engage other communities and convince them that our candidate represents an opportunity for a united and progressive Wajir.”
Farhiya Daud ,a nominated MCA in Nairobi urged women to play a central role in the campaign and the wider political conversation.
“Women cannot remain spectators in this journey. We have a stake in the leadership of this county and we must participate fully in shaping the political future of Wajir. We will take this message to our families and communities and make our contribution to this campaign.”
Representing the youth And Professionas , Abdi called on young people to seize the opportunity to influence the county's political direction. further called upon everyone who has not register to take part as now there no hurdles in getting identity cards.
“The youth are the majority of our population and should also be at the centre of the political conversation. We want leadership that recognises our aspirations, creates opportunities and gives young people a meaningful place in the future of Wajir.”
Kolosh Receives Endorsement Certificate
The climax of the formal proceedings came with the presentation of the endorsement certificate, formally declaring Kolosh the sole candidate of Rerow Mohamud for the 2027 gubernatorial race.
The certificate, boldly bearing Kolosh's name, was formally signed by chairman, secretary of the family, before being presented to the candidate amid applause from the gathering.
Accepting the endorsement, Kolosh thanked the community for the confidence placed in him and acknowledged the lengthy consultations that preceded his selection.
“I accept this responsibility with humility and gratitude. This is not a victory for Ahmed Mohamed Kolosh alone; it is a responsibility entrusted to me by the community. I thank our elders, professionals, women, youth and every person who participated in this process.”
Kolosh said his campaign would not be confined to the community that had endorsed him, pledging to reach out to every political structure and community across Wajir County.
“I will not be a governor for one community. If elected, I will be the governor of every person living in Wajir County. I will reach out to every community, every political structure and every section of our society because the county belongs to all of us.”
He also outlined a political approach anchored on inclusivity, engagement and broad-based support, signalling that his next task would be to build bridges beyond his immediate political base.
“Our journey does not end here. This is where the wider journey begins. We must reach out to our brothers and sisters in other communities, engage them respectfully and persuade them to join us in building a united Wajir.”
From Endorsement to Countywide Campaign
The ceremony ended peacefully, with the community now turning its attention to the next phase — courting other communities in Wajir West and beyond in an effort to build a coalition capable of delivering victory in 2027.
Kolosh's immediate political assignment will be to consolidate the Rerow Mohamud vote while expanding his appeal among other communities in Wajir West, a constituency widely regarded as a critical swing-vote zone in county politics.
His candidacy comes as the Wajir gubernatorial race gathers momentum, with several Degodia politicians already signalling interest in the race, including Dr Hassan Fuje, with more candidates expected to enter the contest.
The Rerow Mohamud endorsement therefore adds a significant new dimension to an increasingly competitive gubernatorial landscape.
The selection of Kolosh follows a closely watched internal process involving three Rerow Mohamud aspirants. After weeks of consultations, negotiations, deliberations and disagreements, the delegates' vote delivered a decisive verdict: Ahmed Mohamed Kolosh — 50 votes, Yahya Dahiye — 4 votes and Omar Sheikh — 2 votes
With the internal contest now settled, the political spotlight shifts outward.
For Kolosh and his supporters, the immediate challenge is no longer winning the endorsement. It is converting that endorsement into a wider political coalition across Wajir West and eventually the entire county.
The next phase will require sustained engagement with other communities, political structures, professionals, religious leaders, women and youth as Kolosh seeks to broaden his support base beyond Rerow Mohamud.
Wajir West, with its potential to shape the countywide vote, could prove pivotal in determining the winning formula in the 2027 gubernatorial race.
The Rerow Mohamud community has made its choice. The next political battle is to take that choice beyond the community and persuade a wider Wajir electorate to join the journey.
