Delegates Elect Kolosh by a Landslide as Community Signals a New Phase of Political Unity and Countywide Outreach

The Rerow Mohamud community has formally endorsed Ahmed Mohamed Kolosh as its sole candidate for the Wajir gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, concluding an intensive consensus-building process that lasted several days before culminating in a delegates' vote.
The exercise, attended by elders, religious leaders, professionals, women, youth representatives and delegates drawn from across the community, was widely described as one of the most significant political gatherings ahead of the 2027 elections.
After days of consultations, dialogue and deliberations aimed at forging unity, delegates resolved to settle the matter through a democratic vote.
When ballots were counted, Ahmed Mohamed Kolosh secured an overwhelming 50 votes out of 56, comfortably defeating his competitors.
Yahya Mohamed received four votes, while Omar Sheikh garnered two votes, making Kolosh the community's undisputed flagbearer.
The announcement was received with applause, chants and celebrations as supporters hailed the outcome as a demonstration of political maturity and unity.
The electoral process was presided over by Mohamed Khalif, who served as the returning officer and announced the official results.
Addressing delegates after declaring the outcome, Khalif commended the community for conducting a peaceful and credible process.
"Today, the Rerow Mohamud community has demonstrated that leadership can be determined through dialogue, consultation and democratic choice. The delegates have spoken clearly and the outcome reflects the will of the people. I congratulate all the candidates for their civility and urge every member of the community to unite behind the decision reached today."
Khalif further noted that every candidate had been given an equal opportunity throughout the process and praised the delegates for maintaining order and discipline.
"What we have witnessed today is not about winners and losers. It is about strengthening our unity and presenting a common vision as we prepare for the next phase of political engagement."
Several senior elders echoed similar sentiments, describing the endorsement as a defining moment for the community.
Veteran elder Omar Hajj urged members to protect the unity achieved during the consultations.
"This process was never about individuals. It was about safeguarding the future of our community. We have spoken with one voice from today there should be no divisions. Every family, every elder, every youth and every woman should rally behind the decision we have collectively made."
Community elder Kassim Mohamed described the outcome as a victory for consultation over confrontation.
"For several days we sat together, listened to different opinions and allowed every voice to be heard. That is the strength of our community. We leave this gathering stronger than we came because we have chosen unity over division."
Another respected elder, Omar Yare, called on supporters of all candidates to close ranks and focus on the larger political journey ahead.
"Politics should never divide families or neighbours. The contest has ended. From today, we move forward as one community with one candidate and one common purpose."
In his acceptance speech, Ahmed Mohamed Kolosh thanked the delegates for the confidence they had placed in him and pledged to lead an inclusive campaign that would embrace every resident of Wajir County.
"I am deeply humbled by the trust and confidence that the delegates and the entire Rerow Mohamud community have bestowed upon me. This endorsement is not my personal victory—it belongs to every member of our community who believed in dialogue, patience and unity."
Kolosh said the endorsement marked the beginning not the end of a broader political journey.
"Our task now is to unite beyond our community. I will immediately begin consultations with our brothers and sisters from the Matan, Maow, Samatar and respected communities because the future leadership of Wajir must be built on partnership inclusivity and mutual respect."
He also extended an olive branch to supporters of his former rivals.
"I hold great respect for my fellow contestants. They remain valuable leaders whose wisdom and support will be essential as we move forward together. There is no room for bitterness. We are one family with one shared destiny."
Kolosh further pledged to engage residents across Wajir West before expanding his outreach to every constituency in the county.
"My campaign will be open to every community and every resident of Wajir County. Our agenda will focus on unity, equitable development, accountable leadership and improving the lives of our people."
Political observers believe the endorsement now shifts attention to coalition-building beyond the Rerow Mohamud community. The next phase is expected to involve engagement with the Matan, Maow and Samatar communities before extending outreach across Wajir West and the wider county.
The development also reshapes the emerging gubernatorial contest. With Dr. Hasan Fuje already endorsed as the Fai community's sole candidate, the county's political landscape is steadily taking shape as major communities consolidate behind individual contenders.
As the countdown to the 2027 General Election continues, Wajir's long-standing culture of negotiated democracy is once again at the centre of political calculations. Whether these emerging endorsements ultimately translate into broader countywide alliances remains one of the defining questions that will shape the race for the county's highest office.
